A singer + songwriter who is defining the new world of Contemporary Cabaret

From the foundations of theatre and classical training, Megan Shorey's powerful, full-bodied voice (time out, 2005) has carved a raw and uncensored path to the newly defined world of Contemporary Cabaret. Megan is no delicate answer to Australian female song-writing, but rather an unequalled performer of the highest vocal quality, skilfully wrapping some of life's hardest questions in one of the most passionate sounds you're likely to hear for a long time.

Megan's two solo Cabarets have been met with critical and audience acclaim alike. She wields the grand piano like a weapon and coaxes her audiences into a vocal experience that drips with honesty. With An explosion of raw, gutful and extraordinarily well equipped sound, Megan has the technique to be flexible in any style and genre, but above all she has a voice that is gigantic. Just beautiful, warm and very real.(Sisiuno Helu July 2005)

Programming for 2005/2006 gives evidence of this performers calibre, with residencies (The Lab Bar, The Atrium, The Brisbane Powerhouse, The Spark Bar), Local Festivals (Brisbane Festival, Brisbane Cabaret Festival, Racecourse Rd Festival, Queensland Music Festival), National Festivals (MusiCairns, Uptempo, Festival Cairns) National Performing Arts Market Showcases (Australian International Music Market, Australian Performing Arts Market) and International shows (Noorderzon Festival — Netherlands) and Touring (Romania, New Zealand and UK) on the agenda. Megan's raw EP titled "The live session", was released at the Cairns leg of her first Nth Qld tour in 2004 (touring again in 2005 with the Megan Shorey Band), with title tracks gaining airplay on Hot FM, 4CA, 4zzz and ABC national, and subsequent interviews being aired on ABC National, Hot FM and 4ZZZ.

The release of Megan's debut album is scheduled for 2006.

meganshorey live session EP

Each track on this debut EP is a pared down, single take live session recording. Lip licking, rings hitting the keys of the grand piano, the squeak of the piano stool. They're all included. This album has the strong motivation of its writer, to be an homage to live performance and the rawness this brings to the listener.

It's as if Megan were performing for you live in your lounge-room, taking you on an uncensored journey of bitter-sweet memories and never once apologising for the way she is.
