Megan Shorey is a Lecturer in Performance (Musical Theatre) at The Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre, where she has worked for 15 years and has led the industry-recognised Singing Department for the past four. In her current role, Megan oversees the design, delivery, and continual refinement of the vocal curriculum, develops rigorous assessment and audition frameworks, and mentors a high-performing team of vocal staff. 

 

Megan’s cross-disciplinary and biopsychosocial teaching expertise also extends to her recent specialisation in vocal manual therapy and its integration into training the musical theatre performance athlete. Her leadership ensures a world-class Musical Theatre program that upholds the highest industry standards and fosters exceptional student outcomes.

 

Nationally acclaimed for her vocal coaching, Megan’s alumni appear in major productions including Sister Act, Hadestown, Grease, Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, & Juliet, and Cats. She also plays a key role in the development and delivery of QAEMT’s regional outreach initiatives, provides direction and leadership for the nationally recognised audition workshop program, and contributes to the newly established Pre-Tertiary QAEMT stream.

 

Beyond the Academy, Megan is a highly regarded vocal consultant, working with touring Australian theatre companies such as Belvoir St, Griffin, STC, MTC, and Queensland Theatre. These partnerships strengthen the bridge between training and professional practice, defining her significant and ongoing contribution to the field. A creative in her own right, Megan is also an award-winning music theatre playwright/composer with writing credits that extend to both stage and screen.
